Komodo and the 2027 school holidays: French, German and Indonesian families

France fixes its school year by national order, with zones A, B and C taking their winter and spring breaks at different times. The order for 2026-2027 is dated 22 October 2025. The public-service portal published the table two days later and updated it on 16 July 2026 (service-public.gouv.fr).

Summer 2027 is the easy part: every zone breaks up on Saturday 3 July 2027. The table gives the start of the holiday but not the return, so a family eyeing the last week of August will have to wait for the 2027-2028 calendar.

Winter and spring vary by zone:

• Zone A: winter 13 February to 1 March, spring 10 to 26 April.
• Zone B: winter 20 February to 8 March, spring 17 April to 3 May.
• Zone C: winter 6 to 22 February, spring 3 to 19 April.

Each range runs from the Saturday the holiday begins to the Monday school goes back. Christmas, 19 December 2026 to 4 January 2027, is the same in all three zones. PADI Travel puts Komodo's rainy months at December to March, which means the Christmas and winter breaks fall in the wet season, while the April breaks catch the start of the dry.

There is no single German school calendar. Each Land sets its own, and the Kultusministerkonferenz publishes them side by side; its table for the 2026-2027 school year is dated 9 October 2025 (kmk.org).

For summer 2027, that table lists these breaks:

• Hessen, Rheinland-Pfalz, Saarland: 28 June to 6 August
• Berlin, Brandenburg: 1 July to 14 August
• Hamburg: 1 July to 11 August
• Nordrhein-Westfalen: 19 July to 31 August
• Sachsen, Sachsen-Anhalt, Thüringen: 10 July to 20 August
• Baden-Württemberg: 29 July to 11 September
• Bayern: 2 August to 13 September

Bremen and Niedersachsen (8 July to 18 August), Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (5 July to 14 August) and Schleswig-Holstein (3 July to 14 August) make up the sixteen.

The spring break is shorter. Most states stop between 22 March and 3 April 2027, and Whitsun gives Baden-Württemberg 18 to 29 May and Bayern 18 to 28 May. Neighbours on either side of a state border can be off in different weeks, something a Freundeskreis spread across more than one Land will notice.

Indonesia's public holidays for 2027 are already fixed. On 15 September 2026 three ministers signed a joint decree that sets 18 national holidays, with 8 days of collective leave on top (setneg.go.id).

For a boat trip, three stretches stand out:

• Saturday 6 to Monday 15 March. Nyepi falls on the 8th, Eid al-Fitr on the 10th and 11th, and collective leave on the 9th, 12th and 15th. For a family whose employer follows collective leave, that is ten days in a row.
• Saturday 15 May to Thursday 20 May: Eid al-Adha on 17 May, collective leave on 18 and 19 May, Vesak on 20 May. Six days running.
• Tuesday 17 August is Independence Day, and Friday 24 December is collective leave before Christmas.

School holidays are a different story, because provinces and cities set them. We found no national calendar for 2027-2028. A Jakarta-area calendar published on 6 July 2026 puts the end-of-year break at 28 June to 11 July 2027 (brainacademy.id). A Trip.com guide dated 18 August 2026 has 26 June to 10 July for Jakarta and 21 June to 10 July for madrasah. A Central Sulawesi calendar posted on 15 July 2026 starts on 21 June (komunitasbelajar.id). Across these sources the break begins between 21 and 28 June and ends on 10 or 11 July. Your own school office has the final word.

PADI Travel gives Komodo a dry season from April to November and a rainy season from December to March. Set the calendars against that and the French summer break, every German summer break and the Indonesian end-of-year break all sit inside the dry months. The Easter and winter breaks mostly land in the rainy ones. On the day itself, the weather and the sea decide the route, and that is the captain's call.

Park rules shift more than the school calendars, and no visitor limit for 2027 is published. We confirm what applies to your dates before you pay.

The park ticket is always on top of the fare. International visitors pay IDR 250,000. Indonesians pay less: IDR 50,000 for a weekday visit, IDR 75,000 for a Saturday or Sunday. Levies for rangers and the pier come as a separate payment, and those amounts can change.

Senada's open trips run on two rhythms: 3 days from Fridays, 2 days from Mondays and Wednesdays. Senada Phinisi has 25 dates on the calendar from Wednesday, 4 November 2026, and none in 2027 so far.

• 2027 is bookable. The current prices apply until the 2027 ones are issued, and we confirm the figure in writing before you pay. Open-trip dates for 2027 are on request.
• Whole boat for 18. For 9 to 12 guests the boat is IDR 78,000,000 (≈ USD 4,785) for 3 days, and each guest from the thirteenth up to 18 adds IDR 3,000,000 (≈ USD 184).
• The sum for 18. Eighteen guests on 3 days come to IDR 96,000,000 (≈ USD 5,890) for the boat, or IDR 5,330,000 (≈ USD 327) each.
• One seat. On the 3-day trip, a Superior Suite seat is IDR 5,300,000 (≈ USD 325).

Ask the group first whose calendar ties everyone else. A French family in zone B and their cousins in zone C won't share a spring break, and a household in Bayern is still at school while Nordrhein-Westfalen is already on the beach. Find the week you share, then send us two or three options, because the boat takes one group at a time.

Book flights home for after 14:00, since the 3-day trip is back in Labuan Bajo around midday. Park tickets, flights and hotels are never included in the price.
