The boat deck by deck: cabins, decks and equipment

Senada is 30 metres long and 6 metres wide, with 6 cabins, a crew of 7 and a tender speedboat on a Yamaha 40 HP engine. Each day the captain sets the course and the stops.

She cruises at 8 to 10 knots, an easy pace that suits a loop of short hops between islands. Her tanks carry seven thousand litres of fresh water and two thousand litres of fuel.

Up top are two Panoramic Suites for 2 to 4 guests each. Both have a balcony and a queen bed with room for extra beds, and the upper suites have a window-seat bench, balcony chairs and a small table.

One deck down, the main deck has a third Panoramic Suite with a balcony, for 2 or 3 guests, and the Deluxe Ocean Suite, also for 2 or 3.

The two Superior Suites are on the lowest deck, each sleeping 2 on a queen bed, with no space for an extra bed. Both have a low beamed ceiling and carved motifs on the hull wall. In all six you get an ensuite bathroom, air conditioning and a working water heater.

Count the queen beds and you get twelve: one per cabin, two guests in each. That is the boat at its standard size, and a party of 12 can give every pair a cabin without anyone on an extra bed or anyone asked to swap.

Extra beds take it to eighteen, and this is where families come in. Each upper Panoramic Suite takes two, the main-deck Panoramic Suite takes one and the Deluxe Ocean Suite takes one. The Superior Suites take none.

Children under 3 sail free; everyone else counts as a guest. Send us the ages and you get a written cabin plan before you pay.

The shared spaces are a large sundeck with bean bags, an outdoor chill area and an indoor dining area, where the Senada Phinisi sign hangs on the wall.

A lounge with a cushioned daybed holds the TV and the karaoke speakers, and the outdoor chill area has a deck bench with a life ring. A dispenser and a refrigerator are on board, with free-flow mineral water, tea, coffee and milk.

Where the group settles changes through the day: the shade of the dining room at midday, the bean bags at sunset, the bow for whoever wants a moment alone.

Engine: Mitsubishi 8DC9. Generator: Mitsubishi PS120. The speedboat runs on a Yamaha 40 HP. For navigation there is a compass, GPS and a map, and the radios are SSB and VHF.

For safety, life jackets and a liferaft. Snorkel gear comes out at the stops, and the canoe goes in at the beaches.
