Fifty-two answers for the group chat

Updated 26 October 2026

Komodo boat trip FAQ for groups: fifty-two answers on Senada Phinisi, covering the six cabins (room for 18 guests), what the whole boat and a single seat cost, paying, the routes and the months. Anything this page can't settle, we settle in writing before you pay.

Send your question

How these answers were checked

Every price on this page comes from the prices of 8 October 2026. When those change, the answers change with them.

What we say about the boat covers its cabins, equipment, facilities and routes. Bed sizes in centimetres and deck areas are on request. The park figures follow the national regulation, PP 36/2024, as checked in October 2026.

Anything we haven't yet confirmed is on request: ask us, and read the written answer before you pay.

The answers are grouped in the order an organiser asks them: cabins, price, dates, payment, life on board, the route, the hikes and the months.

A question this page has missed

Fifty-two questions won't cover every group. There's always the cousin who's afraid of the dark, the grandfather who wants the cabin nearest the stairs, or the friend arriving a day late from another continent.

Send that question to us on WhatsApp, with your group size and dates if you have them. We answer in writing, and once we've given the same answer twice, it goes on this page.

Write it the way you'd post it in the group chat, in your own words. A short message is enough to get started.

Hikes, heat and children

Is the Padar climb too steep for grandparents?

Expect 25 to 45 minutes of steps and loose ground to the main viewpoint, starting before sunrise. Grandparents decide on the day how far they go, and the boat is the same wherever they stop.

Can small children go to Rinca?

Yes, with the group and a ranger. The walk is on dirt paths in the heat, so closed shoes, a hat and water matter. How far a child walks is decided on the day; the full fare starts at age 3.

Will anyone get seasick?

Nobody can say in advance. Tell us who is prone to seasickness. April to June, and again October and November, have the calmest sea. Ask your doctor about remedies before you fly.

Do rangers walk with the group?

Yes, on the park walks: Komodo allows no trekking without a ranger, and the ranger chooses the path.

Can non-swimmers join the snorkel stops?

Yes at the shallow stops, with a life jacket. Manta Point has a strong current, so the guide decides who goes in. A non-swimmer can stay on the boat, in the canoe or on the sand.

What should everyone pack?

Shoes with grip, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, swimwear, a light layer for the evening, a backpack and personal medicines. The boat carries snorkel gear and life jackets.

Months, weather and getting here

Which month is best for a family group?

April to June, or October and November. The sea is calm, the visibility is high and the paths are firm. No month promises a sighting, and the captain decides on the day.

Is it hot all year?

Yes, Komodo is hot in every month, so the hikes start early and the group rests on the shaded deck at midday.

Who pays the park fee, and when?

Each guest pays per person per day, never as part of the boat price, and the park sells tickets online against each name and passport or ID number.

How much is the park fee?

IDR 250,000 per foreign guest per day. Indonesian guests: IDR 50,000 for a weekday, IDR 75,000 for weekends and public holidays.

How do we get to Labuan Bajo?

Most groups fly into Bali, Jakarta or Surabaya and take a short domestic flight on to Komodo International Airport. Arrive the day before sailing, and send us the flight numbers so we can plan the pickup.

Where should the group stay the night before sailing?

A hotel near the port makes for the shortest morning. Meruorah Komodo Labuan Bajo and Komodo Lodge are in the marina and town area. They are partner hotels, and the rate is set by the hotel. Send us the head count and we take your dates to the hotels.

On board: meals, water, karaoke and the crew

What meals are served?

Full board: meals, snacks, tea, coffee and drinks. Menus and meal times are on request. Send any dietary request to us as a question, and the answer comes back in writing.
