Who sleeps where in a family of 14

Take a family of 14, with three generations of opinions: grandparents, two couples with their children, an aunt and uncle, and two teenagers.

The grandparents (2) take the Deluxe Ocean Suite on the main deck. Each upper Panoramic Suite takes a family of 4, using both its extra beds. The aunt and uncle (2) have the Panoramic Suite on the main deck, and the two teenagers share a Superior Suite, which leaves the second Superior Suite empty.

So 14 guests fill five of the six cabins. You pay the 9 to 12 band plus 2 extra guests, and the empty Superior Suite becomes a spare room for whoever needs a nap. Post the plan in the chat before anyone starts arguing.

The grandparents' cabin, chosen first

Choose the grandparents' cabin first, because everything else fits around it. The Deluxe Ocean Suite is on the main deck, a flight of stairs below the upper suites, and takes up to 3, so a grandchild can have the extra bed. The cabins page has photographs of every cabin.

The main-deck Panoramic Suite has a hexagon mirror above the bed and a door out to the balcony. If the grandparents care more about a balcony than about staying on the main deck, that's the cabin to ask for. The upper Panoramic Suites, a flight higher, have a balcony and a window-seat bench.

With a bathroom and air conditioning in each cabin, nobody queues. The Superior Suites take two and no extra bed, which suits teenagers better than toddlers.

Fares for the youngest: under 3 free, then the full price

Children aged 0 to 2 go free when a parent or guardian is with them. From 3, a child pays the full price, for a seat or for the whole boat. Give us every age when you write, and the cabin plan and count come back in writing before anyone pays.

If you need a cot, a child seat or a child-sized life jacket, ask us; our written answer comes before payment.

For a family of 11 or more on 3 days, a share of the whole boat comes in under a Panoramic seat. The compare page shows the head count and the sum.

The 3-day plan with the slow morning marked

Friday: pickup before an 11:00 start, then lunch on board. The first day goes gently. The sail to Kelor and the trek at Rinca are the only two walks, and the sunset at Kalong is watched from the boat, so the youngest and oldest miss nothing by staying aboard.

Saturday is the one to plan. The Padar sunrise walk, at 06:18 in July, is optional. Pink Beach and the snorkelling at Taka Makassar and Manta Point follow a late breakfast for anyone who skipped the ridge.

Sunday is the slow morning, marked on the plan: breakfast, a snorkel at Siaba or Sebayur if the captain agrees, then back to Labuan Bajo around midday. Book flights after 14:00.

Stops that can swap places on the day: Manta Point ⇄ Taka Makassar.

Pickup comes before the 11:00 start and is the one fixed hour. Every other time on this page is a planning guide, and the captain sets the stop order on the day.

The Padar climb is optional, and the boat is not

On Padar and Rinca the stairs and dirt paths are real, and so is the heat. Find out who wants to climb. Grandparents and small children decide on the day how far they go, and nobody has to prove anything on the ridge.

For everyone else, the boat is there all the time. Whoever stays behind has the sundeck and the dining area, and staying aboard is a choice, not a defeat.

There's a karaoke set on board and bean bags on the sundeck, so a family that likes to sing can do it while the climbers are away, or when they come back.

The family sum, per head

On 3 days, the family of 14 pays IDR 84,000,000 (≈ USD 5,153) for the boat, or IDR 6,000,000 (≈ USD 368) each. The 9 to 12 band covers twelve of them, and the other two count as extra guests at IDR 3,000,000 (≈ USD 184) each.

A family of 10, six adults and four children aged 3 or over, pays IDR 78,000,000 (≈ USD 4,785), which is IDR 7,800,000 (≈ USD 479) each. They fit in five of the six cabins at two to a cabin, inside the 9 to 12 band.

Park tickets, flights and hotels come on top. A private price doesn't include the guide or the documentation, which we quote separately if you ask. From 11 guests on 3 days, the boat works out cheaper per person than a Panoramic seat.

FAQ

Can children share a cabin with parents?

Yes. A Panoramic Suite sleeps up to four on a queen bed plus extra beds, and the Deluxe Ocean Suite up to three. The two Superior Suites take two each and have no extra bed. On a shared sailing an extra bed costs IDR 4,000,000 (≈ USD 245) on 3 days and IDR 3,000,000 (≈ USD 184) on 2. Send us every age and we follow up with the cabin plan in writing.

At what age do children pay?

A child of 0 to 2 sails free alongside a parent or guardian. From age 3 the full price applies, whether you book a seat or the whole boat. Please give us each child's age when you write, so the count in our confirmation is right.

Is there a child-sized life jacket?

Every guest has a life jacket on board. If a child needs a child-sized one, ask us, and before you pay we'll write back to say whether one is aboard for your trip.

Can grandparents skip the Padar climb?

Yes. The climb is optional, and anyone who stays behind has the boat. The paths on Padar and Rinca are real stairs and dirt, and grandparents decide on the day how far they walk.

Is the boat safe for small children?

The boat carries life jackets and a liferaft and has a crew of 7, and every cabin has its own bathroom. As on any boat, decks and stairs need an adult nearby. Ask us about child sizes, and our reply comes in writing before you pay.
