Senada Phinisi
A phinisi in Labuan Bajo, and the team that books it for you
Updated 26 October 2026
Senada Phinisi, who we are: a 30 m phinisi from Labuan Bajo with 6 cabins and a crew of 7, booked through PT Komodo Explorer Indonesia. We look after the booking, the payment and the pickup; the crew looks after the boat.
A name that means in tune
Senada is an Indonesian word for being in tune: voices that fit together, feet keeping one pace, people who agree without needing a meeting. Seirama means much the same, with the weight on rhythm. The boat carries the first word: the Senada Phinisi sign hangs on the dining-room wall.
A group trip is a long exercise in staying in tune. Eighteen people sleep, eat and walk together on one boat for two, three or four days. One wants the Padar climb at dawn, another wants the cabin until nine. Someone sings, someone reads on the sundeck.
The boat has room for both, which is why it suits. Six cabins keep the nights private, while the shared decks, the dining area and the karaoke set keep the days together. We take the name as advice for the organiser: plan so that everyone can join in, and nobody has to.
The boat and its crew of seven
Senada is a 30 m phinisi with a 6 m beam and 6 cabins, sleeping 12 at two per cabin and up to 18 with extra beds. She is sailed by a crew of 7.
The crew belongs to the boat. On board are a tender speedboat with a Yamaha 40 HP engine, life jackets and a liferaft, SSB and VHF radio, a compass, GPS and a map.
Local Wi-Fi is on board for messages, and the captain keeps her at 8 to 10 knots, an easy pace for short hops between islands.
| Guests on board | Crew to guests |
|---|---|
| Full · 18 | 2.6 guests for each crew member |
| Typical · 12 | 1.7 guests for each crew member |
| Small group · 6 | 0.9 guests for each crew member |
Who books it, and who sails it
Two teams handle your trip, each with its own job. PT Komodo Explorer Indonesia, a company registered in Labuan Bajo under NIB 1805260128363, handles the booking. The boat's crew handles the sailing.
That's worth knowing before you pay. The reply to your message, the price, the deposit and the cabin plan all come from us. The route on the day, the weather call and the night's anchorage come from the captain, who decides on the spot. We do not steer the boat, and the crew doesn't take bookings.
If a breakdown, a port order or a park order stops the boat, the promise is ours to keep: another phinisi in the same class or above, on your own dates with nothing more to pay, or a full refund within 14 days.

Our part before departure day
Before you sail, we deal with the paperwork for the whole group. We answer your first message with a cabin plan and a price, and confirm that same plan in writing before anyone pays. We take the deposit, 50%, and then the balance 30 days before departure.
We ask for everyone's names and ID details in good time, at least seven days before departure, because the names on the boarding pass have to match the passenger list held by the harbour. We arrange the pickup from a hotel or the airport to fit an 11:00 start, and we can help with a hotel for the night before.
Then we send everything the group needs in one message the organiser can paste straight into the chat: the pickup time, what to pack and who to call.
Jobs that are not ours
Some jobs belong to other people, and we'd rather say so. The route and the order of the stops are the captain's decision, and so is where the boat spends the night, with the weather and the captain's judgement on the day deciding it. The harbour authority decides when tourist boats may sail, and the park rangers choose the path on the island walks.
Flights, hotels before and after the trip, park tickets and tips are outside the boat price, and they stay with you. Every guest should have travel insurance with medical and evacuation cover, bought individually, and we strongly recommend it.
Ask us about a cot, a child seat, a child-sized life jacket, a drone or decorations. We reply in writing, and you pay after that.
